Go Bike! Strathclyde Cycle Campaign
Achievements
What we've achieved so far
- A commitment from Glasgow City Council to a 375km Glasgow Cycle Network, to be
built over 10 years starting from 1998
- Advance Stop Lines for Cyclists
- The Colleges Cycle Route linking Glasgow city centre, west end and Jordanhill
- A cycle route partially implemented through, rather than around, Glasgow city
centre (West Nile Street/Gordon Street)
- Reopening and retention of the "temporary" Bells Bridge, at least until a new
bridge is built at Finnieston
- Loch Lomond cycle route between Balloch, Luss and Tarbet
- Cycle routes that actually link up to other cycle routes rather than just a
handful of unconnected routes
- Spokes Maps "Glasgow Cycle Map"
- Secure cycle lockers at several railway stations
- Increases in bike parking
- Overturning plans to make Kelvin Way one-way
- Legalised cycling in North Hanover Street contraflow bus lane and through Bridgeton Cross bus gate
- Linking the Forth & Clyde Canal to the Glasgow Cycle Network at Spiers Wharf,
near the city centre, with a ramp
What's still to do
- Progress on implementing the Glasgow Cycle Network
- Cycling measures at major junctions such as Charing Cross
- Clyde Tunnel personal safety issues
- Legalise cycling through Ashfield, South Nitshill and Erskine bus gates
- A Paisley to Renfrew cycle route, via Netherhill Road and Sandy Road
- Getting a proposed Uddingston to Strathclyde Park cycle route implemented
- More links to and from cycle routes, for instance, to residential areas and
railway stations
- Further increases in bike parking
- Raising standards of cycle route design, construction and maintenance

Go Bike works with local councils to get problems resolved, such as getting more cycle parking stands installed.
Glasgow City Council has advised that anyone wanting to suggest small projects for improving cycling, such as new dropped kerbs or signage, should send them in. Email les@glasgow.gov.uk and mark the subject "Cycling Improvements". Faults should continue to be reported to RALF. Let us know how you get on!
