Go Bike! Strathclyde Cycle Campaign
Learning to Cycle

Cycle Training Schemes

There are cycle training courses for beginners and intermediates, weekend trips riding trails to suit all levels of rider, and advice for commuters, all run by Culture and Sport Glasgow [PDF download].

See also Cyclists Touring Club for details of other schemes.

Cycle Maintenance Classes

Some bike maintenance classes are available in the Glasgow area:

Through in Edinburgh the Edinburgh Bicycle Cooperative continues its popular and well established bike maintenance classes.

Cycling Proficiency Schemes

Contact your local council for details of its Cycling Proficiency Scheme, usually run in the last two years of primary school. See the Scottish Cycle Training Scheme.

Bike Buddy Schemes

Some of the advantages of cycling are not being tied to timetables or having to wait around for others. However, if you wish to have some company whilst you cycle, perhaps to help you gain confidence in cycling or to discover more suitable routes, there is now a bike-buddy element to the SPT Journey Share scheme. Bike Budi offers a similar service.

Gaining Experience

New cyclists who have learned to cycle but want a little more experience cycling about the Glasgow area are always welcome to join our regular monthly cycle rides.
