Go Bike! East Dunbartonshire Newsletter Spring 2001

Research has shown the major deterrents to increased cycling on roads to be worries about high traffic speeds and densities. (That's why children cycle on pavements!).
East Dunbartonshire's towns, like most other places in Scotland, are typified by traffic generating developments and the lack of any comprehensive cycling infrastructure.

Yet East Dunbartonshire's proposed Local Plan has three excellent "Guiding Principles"-

Sustainable development,
Sustainable town centre access,
and Integration of land use and transportation.

Wouldn't it be great if the proposed Bett Homes development on the former Garvie's factory site in Milngavie were to become Scotland's showcase example of sustainable and car-free village centre living!

In this issue :-
Tesco Cycle path opens in Milngavie.
European Car-Free day announced.
Foot and mouth crisis.
Extra funding announced for cycling projects.
Cycle route campaign in Baldernock.
Safe cycling for adults.
