National Cycle Network

Within Glasgow City, National Cycle Network Routes 7, 75 and 754 can be found.

Route 7: Sunderland - Carlisle - Newton Stewart - Ayr - Lochwinnoch - Paisley - Glasgow - Clydebank - Balloch - Callander - Inverness
Within Strathclyde this long-distance route follows the Ayrshire Coast northwards to Kilwinning, then minor roads to Glengarnock where a former railway line is followed to Paisley. Riverside paths and minor roads take the route into Glasgow, then it follows the north bank of the Clyde, on various paths, to Dumbarton before following the River Leven northwards to Balloch. After Balloch it follows minor roads north-eastwards towards the Highlands.

Route 75: Gourock - Kilmacolm - Paisley - Glasgow - Uddingston - Airdrie - Livingston - Edinburgh - Leith
This coast-to-coast route starts following the waterfront from Gourock to Greenock, then joins a former railway line through to Paisley. NCN 7 is joined between Paisley and Glasgow, from where this route follows the River Clyde to Uddingston. After there is heads north to Coatbridge and joins various railway lines to continue through Airdrie to Bathgate. Paths and minor roads take the route to Livingston and at Balerno the route joins the Water of Leith Way and then the Union Canal for the journey into Edinburgh. The final section to Leith is along a former railway line.

Route 754: Clydebank - Kirkintilloch - Falkirk - Linlithgow - Edinburgh
This route follows the Forth & Clyde Canal through north-west Glasgow and onwards to the Falkirk Wheel. It then follows the Union Canal to Edinburgh.

Ayr Road Route: Shawlands - Giffnock - Newton Mearns - Fenwick
In part on-road cycle lanes, and further out a dedicated cycle track, this route follows the A77 road most of the way to Kilmarnock. A connecting branch route links Thornliebank to Whitecraigs.

Dams to Darnley Route: Balgray Reservoir - Waulkmill Glen - Darnley
This route through the Dams to Darnley Country Park runs from the back of Barrhead, around several reservoirs, and down Corselet Road to Darnley. From there the Brock Burn Path can be followed to Silverburn Shopping Centre, and a signed cycle route on Damshot Road links to NCN 7 & 75.

Glasgow to Cumbernauld Route: City Centre - Provanmill - Hogganfield - Stepps - Cumbernauld
Starting off at Townhead, this route heads through north east Glasgow with on-road cycle lanes before arriving in North Lanarkshire at Stepps. Beyond there a path alongside the A80 is used to Muirhead, then the back road to Mollinsburn. The route ends up in Condorrat.

Kelvin Cycleway: Yorkhill - Kelvingrove - Botanic Gardens - Wyndford - Maryhill Park
This route leaves NCN Route 7 at Ferry Road and follows the River Kelvin upstream through the West End to the edge of the city, mostly on riverside paths. A shared-use footway alongside Maryhill Road connects the route to the city boundary at Killermont Bridge. Beyond there, cycle lanes continue from Hillfoot to Milngavie.

Glasgow to Paisley Route: Bells Bridge - Bellahouston - Cardonald - Leverndale - Paisley
Most of this route is shared with NCN Routes 7 and 75, but goes through Bellahouston Park and South Cardonald instead of Pollok Park. Within the urban areas the route follows quieter side streets, but uses a riverside path in between Glasgow and Paisley.

Colleges Route: Jordanhill - Glasgow University - Woodlands - Cowcaddens - Strathclyde University
This route connects various college and university campuses across the West End and into the City Centre, using a mixture of on-road cycle lanes and quieter side streets.

Jordanhill Nature Trail: Jordanhill - Scotstoun
This off-road path takes the route of an abandoned railway line from Jordanhill to Scotstoun. It connects to NCN Route 7 via Primrose Street.

Sighthill Route: City Centre - Sighthill - St Rollox Retail Park
Starting off at Townhead, this route leaves the Cumbernauld route and heads across Sighthill Park, through Sighthill, and ends at St Rollox Retail Park. This route may be extended northwards to Springburn and Stobhill Hospital.

The Clyde Tunnel: Whiteinch - Linthouse
The Clyde Tunnel has its own tunnels for cyclists and pedestrians, underneath the motor vehicles tunnels. These take cyclists under the River Clyde and the tunnels now have a controlled entry system to improve safety.

White Cart Route: Pollok Park - Cathcart - Holmwood House
This route follows the White Cart upstream from Pollok Park through Pollokshaws, Langside and Cathcart to link to Linn Park and Holmwood House, mostly on quieter side streets and linking sections of path.
Suburban route
