We really need some more volunteers for our committee to be able to continue the work we have been doing over recent years.

The committee meets every two months for two hours on a Tuesday evening. At the moment, we do that virtually, and it is likely to continue virtually for the foreseeable future.

We are particularly looking for volunteers for these roles:

1) Co-convenor

John, one of our co-convenors, is stepping down at the AGM, so we are looking for someone with a bit of time to support our other co-convenor, Thomas. This role would include chairing the regular committees meetings (mentioned above), creating policy positions for GoBike in consultation with the wider committee and leading our campaigning work.

2) Consultations co-ordinator

This role would involve working with our three existing volunteers to identify key consultations we would like to respond to, communicating with the wider membership body to recruit a member to draft the response, answering questions about the process, and signing off the response.

3) Hustings organiser/manager

With the elections for the Scottish Parliament in May next year, we wish to repeat the success of our hustings for the previous parliamentary election in May 2016 and the local council elections in May 2017. This would include creating a plan for delivering the hustings, likely to be online, but with some planning for an in-person event, if circumstances allow.

As with all things Covid our Public Meeting and AGM will be an online affair. To enable us to manage this feat we need everyone who is attending to register via Eventbrite. Please click on the link below and get your ticket.

For all those with tickets, a link and instructions on how to join the Public Meeting and AGM will be sent out shortly after.

We will be hosting it in Bike for Good’s Community Room, at their South Glasgow base on Victoria Road, with easy access along the South City Way.

Sunday 3 December – Glasgow Cycle Tour
For the final ride of the year we shall take a 18 mile tour of the attractions of Glasgow, including some of the best known buildings and landmarks around the city. Education, religion, horticulture, medical, sport, defence, industry, transport and a flagpole viewpoint are all represented. And of course, there will be many pieces of new and old cycle infrastructure along the way.

Sunday 7 January 2018 – Inner City Infrastructure
For our annual review of Glasgow’s cycle infrastructure we shall take a 15 mile trip around the edges of the city centre, seeing routes into, out of, and around the centre of the city. As well as seeing existing routes such as the South West City Way and the Clyde Gateway, we will also take the opportunity to see the next routes to be developed, including Victoria Road, Sauchiehall Street and the Woodside Mini-Holland. We will finish the ride in time for lunch in the West End. The ride will mostly be on cycle tracks and quieter roads, but some sections will be on busier roads. Anyone with an interest in cycle infrastructure is welcome to attend.

The venue is the downstairs room of the Admiral Bar on the Waterloo Street section of the West City Way with cycle parking nearby and a NextBike station too.

The upstairs bar will be open all evening but our doors will open at 7pm with the AGM at 7:30 and Anna Richardson speaking from 8pm.

Do come along, renew your membership or join on the evening, bring a friend or two, enjoy yourself, have a drink, ask Anna a question, buy a GoBike t-shirt, and contribute to improving cycling and active travel in Scotland’s largest city.

• From 31 August and through September, Glasgow Councillor rides.  Our first one is with Christy Mearns, the new Green Councillor for Anderston/City/Yorkhill and we’ll be looking at Garnethill.

Doors open 7pm for the AGM at 7:30 and then our Public Meeting with Councillor Martin McElroy at 8pm, in the Admiral Bar, 72a Waterloo Street in Glasgow, with a NextBike hire stand and bike parking almost right outside.

Go Bike AGM – many thanks to all who attended and participated. Attendance was up 142% on last year – let us know if you liked the new venue. Best of all, though – Frank McAveety mentioned a focus on radial routes – good news, although not before time.
