<span id="more-25128"></span>

<p>This tour takes an anti-clockwise loop around the northern side of the city, seeing a variety of sights, and starts by heading through the City Centre, then through Roystonhill to Springburn Park and Stobhill Hospital. <br></p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large is-resized"><img data-recalc-dims="1" decoding="async" width="525" height="303" src="https://i0.wp.com/www.gobike.org/wp-content/uploads/2018/02/botanics.jpg?resize=525%2C303&#038;ssl=1" alt="" class="wp-image-4185" style="width:674px;height:auto" srcset="https://i0.wp.com/www.gobike.org/wp-content/uploads/2018/02/botanics.jpg?resize=600%2C346&amp;ssl=1 600w, https://i0.wp.com/www.gobike.org/wp-content/uploads/2018/02/botanics.jpg?resize=300%2C173&amp;ssl=1 300w, https://i0.wp.com/www.gobike.org/wp-content/uploads/2018/02/botanics.jpg?resize=632%2C365&amp;ssl=1 632w, https://i0.wp.com/www.gobike.org/wp-content/uploads/2018/02/botanics.jpg?w=1064&amp;ssl=1 1064w" sizes="(max-width: 525px) 100vw, 525px" /></figure>

<p><br>We then turn westwards to visit the Ruchill Park flagpole viewpoint, and continue through Botanic Gardens and Gartnavel to the tallest building in the city, Anniesland Tower. Next, we’ll head past the former Jordanhill College on our way to Victoria Park, then head into the West End to finish at Kelvingrove Museum &amp; Art Gallery.<br>20 miles, mostly on paths and quieter roads, but some bits on main roads here and there, and a few hills.<br><em>We meet at 10am at the north end of Bell’s Bridge, Congress Road, Glasgow.</em></p>

<p>GoBike is delighted to sponsor three <strong>How to Start a Bike Bus &#8211; Cycling to School webinars</strong> hosted by <a href="https://womenonwheels.org.uk/" data-type="link" data-id="https://womenonwheels.org.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Women On Wheels</a> and <a href="https://shawlandsbikebus.org/" data-type="link" data-id="https://shawlandsbikebus.org/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Shawlands Bike Bus</a>.</p>

<p>Hear from Katherine Cory, Shawlands Bike Bus co-founder and Women on Wheels Families Coordinator, about how to get started, tips, tricks, challenges and how different bike buses tackle barriers to cycling to get families in their communities riding to school!</p>

<p>Bike buses ooze fun and joy and this short webinar is sure to be an enjoyable intro to the movement. There will be lots of time for Q&amp;A, so don&#8217;t be shy &#8211; get our questions ready!</p>

<p>The second webinar is taking place online via Zoom from <strong>12-1pm on Monday 3 November</strong>. Book via Plinth <a href="https://book.plinth.org.uk/e/31IRlz8mdlLVcsb0NMmN">https://book.plinth.org.uk/e/31IRlz8mdlLVcsb0NMmN</a></p>

<p>Ten of us set off yesterday from the SEC for a 46 mile round trip, five of us on conventional bikes and five using electric assistance &#8211; and there were some hills, so the power was switched on!</p>

<span id="more-24451"></span>

<p>We made our way out to the canal at Anniesland and then up to Milngavie before getting on to the West Highland Way. Not ideal for most of us, better with a mountain bike, but there were some glorious views:</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large is-resized"><img data-recalc-dims="1" loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="525" height="394" src="https://i0.wp.com/www.gobike.org/wp-content/uploads/2025/08/Melvin-and-Tricia-WHW-03-Aug-25.jpg?resize=525%2C394&#038;ssl=1" alt="" class="wp-image-24458" style="width:674px;height:auto" srcset="https://i0.wp.com/www.gobike.org/wp-content/uploads/2025/08/Melvin-and-Tricia-WHW-03-Aug-25.jpg?resize=600%2C450&amp;ssl=1 600w, https://i0.wp.com/www.gobike.org/wp-content/uploads/2025/08/Melvin-and-Tricia-WHW-03-Aug-25.jpg?resize=300%2C225&amp;ssl=1 300w, https://i0.wp.com/www.gobike.org/wp-content/uploads/2025/08/Melvin-and-Tricia-WHW-03-Aug-25.jpg?resize=1536%2C1152&amp;ssl=1 1536w, https://i0.wp.com/www.gobike.org/wp-content/uploads/2025/08/Melvin-and-Tricia-WHW-03-Aug-25.jpg?w=1600&amp;ssl=1 1600w, https://i0.wp.com/www.gobike.org/wp-content/uploads/2025/08/Melvin-and-Tricia-WHW-03-Aug-25.jpg?w=1050&amp;ssl=1 1050w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 525px) 100vw, 525px" /></figure>

<p>The railway path was good to cycle on, although walkers were out in abundance &#8211; some for a short stroll and some doing the whole West Highland Way. We had lunch in Killearn, looking across the wonderful view and then we cycled down the hill and on to the cycle path that took us over the Endrick Water and to Croftamie.<br></p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large is-resized"><img data-recalc-dims="1" loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="525" height="394" src="https://i0.wp.com/www.gobike.org/wp-content/uploads/2025/08/IMG_2670.jpeg?resize=525%2C394&#038;ssl=1" alt="" class="wp-image-24456" style="width:674px;height:auto" srcset="https://i0.wp.com/www.gobike.org/wp-content/uploads/2025/08/IMG_2670.jpeg?resize=600%2C450&amp;ssl=1 600w, https://i0.wp.com/www.gobike.org/wp-content/uploads/2025/08/IMG_2670.jpeg?resize=300%2C225&amp;ssl=1 300w, https://i0.wp.com/www.gobike.org/wp-content/uploads/2025/08/IMG_2670.jpeg?resize=1536%2C1152&amp;ssl=1 1536w, https://i0.wp.com/www.gobike.org/wp-content/uploads/2025/08/IMG_2670.jpeg?w=2048&amp;ssl=1 2048w, https://i0.wp.com/www.gobike.org/wp-content/uploads/2025/08/IMG_2670.jpeg?w=1050&amp;ssl=1 1050w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 525px) 100vw, 525px" /><figcaption class="wp-element-caption">Bridge over Endrick Water, Croftamie 2</figcaption></figure>

<p>The bridge is quite high and narrow but fine to use:<br></p>

<p>We continued on to Jamestown and Alexandria, from where we followed the path along the River Leven to Dumbarton.<br>This was easy cycling and after a wee rest in Dumbarton we all made our way back to Glasgow, some following the canal all the way to the city and some following the old railway line through Bowling.</p>

<p>Next month our ride will be shorter, heading out east with a cafe lunch stop in Drumpellier Park (more details <a href="https://www.gobike.org/about-us/cycle-ride">here</a> on the website).</p>

<p>The last leg of the ride took us through the busy Barshaw Park, then Hillington and on to finish the ride at a very busy Govan Bridge and Riverside Museum, with lots of people out enjoying the sun.</p>

<p>Many thanks to Derek for the photos!</p>

<p>Our next ride will be on Sunday 04 May, when we step up the distance to 45 miles to go north east to Palacerigg Country Park, for a cafe lunch (or bring your own) with very little on main roads.</p>

<p>For our themed December ride, we will be taking a spiral tour of Glasgow, taking in a number of new, rebuilt, and other modern bridges. These include new cycle bridges, railway bridges, motorway bridges, and river and canal bridges. </p>

<span id="more-23032"></span>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img data-recalc-dims="1" loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="525" height="296" src="https://i0.wp.com/www.gobike.org/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/Sighthill-bridge_0624_1200px.jpeg?resize=525%2C296&#038;ssl=1" alt="View of Sighthill bridge looking towards city centre" class="wp-image-21632" srcset="https://i0.wp.com/www.gobike.org/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/Sighthill-bridge_0624_1200px.jpeg?resize=600%2C338&amp;ssl=1 600w, https://i0.wp.com/www.gobike.org/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/Sighthill-bridge_0624_1200px.jpeg?resize=300%2C169&amp;ssl=1 300w, https://i0.wp.com/www.gobike.org/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/Sighthill-bridge_0624_1200px.jpeg?w=1200&amp;ssl=1 1200w, https://i0.wp.com/www.gobike.org/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/Sighthill-bridge_0624_1200px.jpeg?w=1050&amp;ssl=1 1050w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 525px) 100vw, 525px" /></figure>

<p>So expect there to be variety to the ride. Some will be big bridges, others small. Along the way we will use the South West City Way and Byres Road cycleways, and visit several parks. The finish will be around lunchtime in Townhead.<br>18 miles, with occasional climbs along the way.<br><br><em>We meet, as usual, at <em>10am</em>, at the north end of Bell’s Bridge, Congress Road, Glasgow, just near the Armadillo.</em></p>
