GoBike December Ride – to the South-East, Sunday 05 December

Footbridge to Cuningar Loop (geograph_5650116)

Meet 10am Bell’s Bridge, Congress Road, Glasgow. 
We will cut across the south side of Glasgow to Rutherglen. We’ll pass through Overtoun Park then continue across town to the Cuningar Loop Woodland Park. After that, we will return to Glasgow Green and the riverside through Dalmarnock. The ride is around 12 miles long, so will finish before lunchtime.

Junctions: the bad, the downright dangerous – and the good.

What’s wrong with the header photo for this blog or the picture below? It’s of a Glasgow City Council advert on the side of a bus, photographed at Anniesland Cross by GoBike member Euan. To be exact, what’s wrong with it apart from the instant-gut response it provokes that cycling must be incredibly dangerous? Consultation Digest Issue 65, 21 July 2020: What’s happened to Pavement Parking? Proposals approved but not enacted! Plus a request to contribute to the Streets for All Glasgow Commonplace Map, and more.

Cycling around the city reminds us that GoBike supported the proposed ban on pavement parking in Scotland and we supported the Deposit Return Scheme to, hopefully, get some of the glass off our streets. We’ve done a check and have updates for you, see Section 3, though the news could be better, plus updates from north, west and south of Glasgow and Motherwell. Do read on.

#Spacefordistancing Has Just Got Real

GoBike welcomes Glasgow City Council’s announcement that they are going to be making improvements to enable people walking, wheeling and cycling to keep at a safe distance in the city.

The creation of temporary cycle lanes has been rolled out by many cities over the world, in response to Covid-19. It is heartening to see that Scotland’s main cities are following suit.
