A year ago Glasgow City Council consulted on Traffic Management and Parking changes for Dennistoun and Royston. Post Covid they have now radically changed their plans to be far more what we think of as a Low Traffic Neighbourhood, with improvements for those of us who cycle.

There’s no real middle ground in this Consultation Digest, it’s either big trunk road projects and wide strategies or wee villages, School Streets and a potential public square.

It’s like buses – wait for ages for a consultation about the north of the city then loads come along at once. In this case, workshops for a few northern city centre ‘districts’, a future consultation about the uni/college campuses around Cathedral St and a strategic document about North Glasgow.

Welcome to the first Go Bike National Consultation Digest, written by Jim Densham, a monthly round up of current and forthcoming consultations from Scotland and the UK. Because of Covid there was a big pause in usual government work over the spring and summer, but since September there has been a flurry of consultations. This is likely to continue into the new year as the SNP government tries to get as much work done as possible before parliament is dissolved in late March and campaigning properly kicks off for the Holyrood 2021 elections.

Emergency works to repair a fault in cabling which is linked to the local hospital power supply have started today between Portpatrick Road and Bowling on the Forth and Clyde Canal and are expected to close the canal side cycle route for a week.
If you were thinking of heading that way over the weekend or next week a new route will be needed. There is no indication of an alternative diversionary route on the information we have – sorry.
