Consultation Digest (Local) Issue 130, 2 March 2023

Castle Semple assets and connections

All or nothing?

After the recent wave of consultations things have calmed down a bit. There’s a new consultation for Castle Semple Country Park in Renfrewshire. Also, something on the horizon for a roundabout junction in Pollok.

It’s the last call for Glasgow’s District consultations and one in Lanarkshire. The Southside Liveable Neighbourhoods consultations have finished but there’s a few more weeks for the north-west and north-east LNs.

North East District Regeneration Frameworks bird's eye view

In the shadow of the bridge…

February sees an increase in number and scale of consultations. This (delayed) Digest includes four District Regeneration Frameworks and four projects from South Lanarkshire.

Tragically, January ended with the death of Emma Burke Newman, after being hit by a truck driver while cycling near the Broomielaw/George V bridge junction in Glasgow. Her local councillor Jon Molyneux paid tribute to Emma at a meeting to discuss a 20mph limit for the city. GoBike would like to offer sincere condolences to Emma’s family and friends.

Yes! GoBike will be out riding on Sunday! Wandering round the Southside

Aitkenhead House, King's Park

Yes, we will be out cycling on Sunday and here’s where Andy will be taking us:

This ride will take us around the South Side, extending as far as Eastwood and Clarkston. The ride will take in Queens Park, Linn Park and Kings Park, and will include a brand new railway bridge. We will end up on the most recently completed section of the South City Way at Victoria Bridge in time for lunch.
15 miles, with a short section on an unsurfaced path.

Quite a regal ride.

Meet on the north bank of the Clyde, just to the east of Bell’s Bridge at 10am.

See here for further details of our rides.

False start?

Happy New Year. Nothing came in during early January so this short Digest is the first of the year. There are consultations in South Ayrshire and South Lanarkshire. Also, events and consultations coming soon for parts of Glasgow city centre.

During the break, it emerged that GoBike has serious issues with its committee. The last few meetings didn’t take place, including an AGM. Some past committee members stepped in to organise a ‘caretaker’ meeting online. Following on from that, moves are being made to organise an Extraordinary General Meeting within the next few months. This would try to appoint a new committee (especially convenor and treasurer) to avoid GoBike having to fold. Please look out for a post/email announcement in the near future.

It’s all repeats…?

It’s the time of year the BBC dusts down Christmas specials like The Morecambe & Wise Show. This slightly delayed Digest has its own selection box of repeats. Second stage consultations from South Ayrshire, Renfrewshire and North Lanarkshire plus a new city strategy.

Also, there are a few TROs from East Dunbartonshire and Glasgow (for West End parking and more school streets).

It’s been a busy year for consultations so thanks to all those, past and present, who’ve worked on them behind the scenes.
