Further changes for the Broomielaw, more Liveable Neighbourhoods and transport plans.
Continue reading “Consultation Digest (Local) Issue 159, 16 May 2024”The latest Liveable Neighbourhood consultation features some less well known areas at the edge of the city. They have some surprises, as a recent GoBike ride found in Ruchazie (pictured) with its rare water vole habitat. LN consultation events for Lambhill to Milton take place TODAY and tomorrow.
Nearby, the Flourishing Molendinar project is back with detailed plans, including for junction 12 of the M8. Over the boundary in North Lanarkshire there are new plans for an Urban Cycling Park. East Dunbartonshire has an update on development at the edge of Bishopbriggs. Elsewhere, there’s parking in Prestwick and East Renfrewshire has its eight town centre surveys.

This ride will see us heading out to Renfrewshire via Govan and Hillington. We will see progress on the Paisley-Renfrew path, and use the new cycle facilities in the Glasgow Airport and Inchinnan areas, then take a tour around the Dargavel area. After that, we will head for the Erskine Bridge and cross to the north side of the River Clyde. Return to Glasgow will be via Clydebank where we may stop for lunch.
30 miles, with one short section on a main road.
We will meet at 10am at the north end of Bell’s Bridge at the SEC, Congress Road, Glasgow.

East Renfrewshire has the most consultations this time with its eight town centre surveys. East Dunbartonshire has a pair either side of Bishopbriggs, to the north and south (A803 Stage 2 closing soon). The latter affects North Glasgow as does Flourishing Molendinar. Also, there’s parking on an NCN in South Ayrshire, North Lanarkshire features a few times and its a last call for town centre regeneration in South Lanarkshire.
Glasgow has a few new traffic orders but the focus today will be the pair of West End consultations for Yorkhill/Kelvingrove and Anderston.
Drop-in event: TODAY Thursday 18 April 2024 at 3.30–7pm in The Pyramid at Anderston, 759 Argyle Street, Glasgow G3 8DS.
Town centres dominate this issue – one in South Lanarkshire (visualisation in featured image, above) and no less than eight in East Renfrewshire! Elsewhere, North Lanarkshire’s consultations continue and South Ayrshire looks at car parking. Glasgow has a few projects in both the West End and in the north of the city – one of the latter links with East Dunbartonshire.

Our postponed annual ride focusing on cycling infrastructure in Glasgow will be this coming Sunday. We shall take a look at a number of new and recent developments on the north side of the city, starting by heading for the Riverside Museum where we will see the new bridge to Govan taking shape.
As Spring approaches, there’s new life in grassroots Glasgow projects in the Southside, North East and some related projects in the West End. There’s also city centre and Nextbike news. East Renfrewshire are going big with five projects at once. North Lanarkshire have neighbourhood conservation areas and a few traffic orders.
East Dunbartonshire look at the A803 corridor with drop-in event TODAY in Bishopbriggs. However, there’s tragic news elsewhere in the area as a collision killed a 56-year old woman cycling on Manse Road, Bearsden. It involved an HGV driver, as many other fatal crashes have done in the past few months and previous years. GoBike would like to offer condolences to the woman’s family and friends.

Glasgow has plans for air quality, two projects in the West End and one in the East End. North Lanarkshire has an order for ambulance parking and a conservation consultation.

We will head through the western side of Glasgow before reaching Bearsden and Milngavie. Along the way we will pass a couple of historic buildings. After visiting the Mugdock and Craigmaddie Reservoirs, we will return towards Glasgow along the Bears Way, and then join the Forth & Clyde Canal to head towards Speirs Wharf, finishing around lunchtime.
East Renfrewshire take their cycle tracks into town. East Dunbartonshire turn their back on the Bearsway to go rural. Moves to improve Glasgow’s air quality and conserve areas of North Lanarkshire. City streetspace allocation – favouring buses over bikes?
