Castle Semple assets and connections

All or nothing?

After the recent wave of consultations things have calmed down a bit. There’s a new consultation for Castle Semple Country Park in Renfrewshire. Also, something on the horizon for a roundabout junction in Pollok.

It’s the last call for Glasgow’s District consultations and one in Lanarkshire. The Southside Liveable Neighbourhoods consultations have finished but there’s a few more weeks for the north-west and north-east LNs.

In the Neighbourhood…

Another four consultations at once – this time, Liveable Neighbourhoods in Glasgow. Two on the Southside, one for the north-west and one for north-east. Also, new visualisations came out for some of the earlier LN projects (see featured images on this post). A few of South Lanarkshire’s consultations are ongoing and there’s a new one from North Lanarkshire.

Consultation events – Palacerigg, Cumbernauld has a drop-in event TODAY (1–8pm) and Mansewood to Shawlands LN has an event tomorrow (17 Feb, 4–7pm). See below for details…

It’s all repeats…?

It’s the time of year the BBC dusts down Christmas specials like The Morecambe & Wise Show. This slightly delayed Digest has its own selection box of repeats. Second stage consultations from South Ayrshire, Renfrewshire and North Lanarkshire plus a new city strategy.

Also, there are a few TROs from East Dunbartonshire and Glasgow (for West End parking and more school streets).

It’s been a busy year for consultations so thanks to all those, past and present, who’ve worked on them behind the scenes.

Beacons and Buddies…

A few consultations in Paisley and Renfrewshire in this issue. Glasgow consult about sustainability and North Lanarkshire about building a new trunk road. A lightshow launches the latest landmark on the Forth & Clyde canal.

Following orders…

A short issue as the festive season approaches. Glasgow is still following up its Spaces for People projects with Traffic Regulation Orders, including Royston Rd and Cambridge St. The latter looks better than last year’s proposed plan but there are still questions about how the council, and its partner agencies, follow guidelines and share information. For example, compare the Cambridge St/Cowcaddens Rd junction in the TRO and Avenues Plus plans. Both Pitt St and Raeberry St TROs and the Avenues Plus consultation finish tomorrow.

There’s an early Christmas present for some tenement dwellers as more Bikehangars are installed in parts of the city.

GoBike ride 07 August – our route

Here’s the up and downy route that Andy took us on last Sunday. The ride started, as per usual, at the north end of Bell’s Bridge and we cycled out via Bellahouston Park and Mosspark, skirted Neilston and arrived at Gleniffer Braes from where we had a superb view of the Clyde Valley to the west of the city, a good place for our break.

Sunday 07 August: ride with GoBike to Gleniffer Braes

We will head southwest out of Glasgow, passing through Bellahouston and Pollok. We will pick up paths alongside the Levern Water and follow these into Barrhead. Then we’ll climb up the hill out of the town, before ending up at the Gleniffer Braes.

New shores, Southside and centre.

There’s a wee jaunt along the coast in this issue – taking in Port Glasgow, Greenock, Prestwick and Ayr. Also, a potential route from Paisley’s (dried up) canal to its town centre. In Glasgow there are Southside surveys and George Sq has gardens galore. Also, East Dunbartonshire Council update on some of their plans.

*Addition* Forthcoming consultations

Events about the ‘Argyle St East’ Avenue (Central Station to Barrowfield Park) are taking place early next week:

Learning Quarter routes map ('people-first' Townhead/Cathedral St)

It’s a long road that has no turning.

Happy St Patrick’s Day! There’s good news about Spaces for People measures in the city – the TRO for Kelvin Way is out. However, there’s more mixed news on SfP measures in towns. After East Renfrewshire’s about turn on Ayr Rd/Fenwick Rd, now Renfrewshire’s Paisley to Howwood protected route is being removed. In contrast, Inverclyde vote to keep an SfP route in Greenock.

The long-awaited city centre campuses consultation is open about (steep!) routes around Strathclyde Uni and City of Glasgow College. Meanwhile, a few Avenues are under scrutiny, there’s more secure bike parking on the way and Barclays is nearly finished with West St.

Let’s go round again.

A repeat consultation for Pollok and next steps at an Ayrshire harbour (in time for Burns Night). Also, South Lanarkshire’s Ayr Road (A70) pops up again.

After criticism of Spaces for People measures in South Lanarkshire and Renfrewshire, now East Renfrewshire‘s Ayr Road (A77) completes the hat-trick.
