Waiting for the flag to drop.....

It’s less than a week until the UCI World Championships take place around Glasgow/Scotland. It’s the first combined event including every cycling discipline and should bring thousands of fans to the city. The UCI’s world champion colours are all over the city centre, including on stripey Cyclehangars. The City Council is using the spotlight to consult on a cycle sports strategy. Hopefully there’s more of a legacy for urban sports like BMX from this championship than there was from the Commonwealth Games.

This Digest also has two consultations from South Lanarkshire, one from South Ayrshire, a quick one from East Dunbartonshire and a long Framework from Glasgow.

Addition: Forthcoming consultation event

Pollok Roundabout redesign
Consultation event: Thurs 10 August, 1pm to 7pm at Pollok Civic Realm.

Argyle Street West plan, M8 to James Watt St

Putting the ‘Arg’ in Argyle St.

Plans for Argyle St West have re-appeared as a Traffic Order, looking very similar to the last time we shook our heads at them. Most other consultations are continued from the last issue in Ayrshire, Lanarkshire, Renfrewshire and the National Park. Plus, there’s more on the phases of the City Network Delivery Plan.

Also, there are new events on the horizon for Govan Graving Docks…

Map of four phases of Connecting Yorkhill and Kelvingrove project

Return of the City.

After a few issues led by other areas, Glasgow strikes back in this edition. A report on the City Network Delivery Plan offers new hope. Also, the former city ‘Cycling Village’ lands with new proposals (phase map shown, above – sadly the event for it has just passed). Elsewhere in the West End, there’s a Glasgow Uni event about its campus coming soon (see below).

Also, there are projects from South Lanarkshire, East Dunbartonshire and Renfrewshire plus reports from Loch Lomond & Trossachs National Park and East Renfrewshire.

Behind the scenes.

Glasgow takes a back seat for once as Ayrshire dominates this Digest with a few major strategies and active travel routes. Elsewhere, a big development near Cumbernauld is back for round two.

Renfrewshire sees the latest knee-jerk reaction against cycling infrastructure that could be a crucial link between public transport and an NCN route.

Castle Semple assets and connections

All or nothing?

After the recent wave of consultations things have calmed down a bit. There’s a new consultation for Castle Semple Country Park in Renfrewshire. Also, something on the horizon for a roundabout junction in Pollok.

It’s the last call for Glasgow’s District consultations and one in Lanarkshire. The Southside Liveable Neighbourhoods consultations have finished but there’s a few more weeks for the north-west and north-east LNs.

In the Neighbourhood…

Another four consultations at once – this time, Liveable Neighbourhoods in Glasgow. Two on the Southside, one for the north-west and one for north-east. Also, new visualisations came out for some of the earlier LN projects (see featured images on this post). A few of South Lanarkshire’s consultations are ongoing and there’s a new one from North Lanarkshire.

Consultation events – Palacerigg, Cumbernauld has a drop-in event TODAY (1–8pm) and Mansewood to Shawlands LN has an event tomorrow (17 Feb, 4–7pm). See below for details…

It’s all repeats…?

It’s the time of year the BBC dusts down Christmas specials like The Morecambe & Wise Show. This slightly delayed Digest has its own selection box of repeats. Second stage consultations from South Ayrshire, Renfrewshire and North Lanarkshire plus a new city strategy.

Also, there are a few TROs from East Dunbartonshire and Glasgow (for West End parking and more school streets).

It’s been a busy year for consultations so thanks to all those, past and present, who’ve worked on them behind the scenes.
