Consultation Digest (National) Issue 7, 10 September 2021: New term and new Active Travel Minister

I’m sure by now you will have heard that Glasgow MSP Patrick Harvie has been appointed as the new Active Travel Minister in the Scottish Government – congratulations to Patrick. The new role was created after a deal was reached between the Scottish Greens and SNP on a form of power-sharing in Government. The agreement included a raft of measures which will benefit people who want to cycle including a commitment to boost funding for active travel to £320m by 2024/25, which is 10% of the transport budget.

Consultation Digest (National) Issue 5, 12 March 2021: Transport projects for a low-carbon Scotland

There must be an election coming! One of the signs is the reduction in the number of new consultations from the Scottish Government as it wraps up its work programme for this current Parliament. However, before Parliament dissolves and Government goes into purdah there is a petition to sign asking parties to support cycling, and the Strategic Transport Project Review consultation to respond to.

For me, lockdown 2.0 has seen the return of home schooling and child care, and a need for brutal prioritisation of my time. As a result, whilst this digest includes lots of consultations for you to dig into I haven’t been able to provide much of a guide to each this month. Apologies for that.

Consultation Digest (National) Issue 3, 8 January 2021: Scottish Government sets target to get people out of their cars.

Happy New Year to you all. I hope you all had a relaxing festive period. I’ve been well and truly thrown back into work this week reading and digesting the Scottish Government’s Climate Change Plan update. It feels like the policy equivalent of Christmas dinner. Unfortunately, there’s not time for a snooze in front of the TV – the Parliamentary Committee scrutinising the transport policy section needs comments by Tuesday 12 January.

Consultation Digest Issue 61, 26 May 2020

There are 2 new items and the first is news of progress with the redevelopment of Motherwell Train Station, with a nod given to active travel – let’s hope it’s sufficient as more and more people take to walking and cycling and return to public transport, albeit with social distancing, rather than jumping in the car. Then there is a questionnaire for you.
Probably more important, though are Items 1.3 and 1.4 with significant questions on the impact of Covid 19. Do please respond to the well set-out surveys if you wish to see transport and travel improvements.

Consultation Digest Issue 52, 21 January 2020: Byres Road back in the news plus Glasgow takes an alphabetical approach to traffic calming!

Quite a bumper bundle for you today, but 2 of our significant concerns have raised their heads again. Firstly, side roads on cycle lanes – we need cycle lanes to continue across side roads, just as in the feature photo with this Digest. If a child in the Netherlands is able to cycle safely across a side road, a child in Glasgow should be able to too. Secondly, contraflow cycling – when cars are going too fast or more on-road parking is needed the first line of response is to make a street one-way, even for bikes. What have we done wrong? Why should we have to make big detours? Do read on for the details of all the current issues.

Consultation Digest Issue 51, 07 January 2020: A Very Happy New Year to All Our Readers, and a few reminders

As our Digest enters not only its second half-century, but a new decade, this seems a good time to encourage any of you out there who are not yet GoBike members to join us. GoBike is only as strong as its members. We are people who recognise the need for good cycle infrastructure and so we campaign for it. We receive no public funding, have no paid employees, and are run entirely by volunteers, but we do have enthusiastic members who are pleased to get involved and/or pay our minimum fee of £5 per year (and many pay more). Do please join us but also read on for the news, including the long-awaited Byres Road TROs, we have for you.

Good news in this issue with the roll-out of 20mph in Glasgow, the National Cycle Route in Glasgow Green and the South West City Way, see Section 3, and we look forward to cycle lanes to Glasgow’s newest railway station at Robroyston, but do read on for lots, lots more with mention of South and North Lanarkshire, East Dunbartonshire and East Renfrewshire as well as the big city.

Consultation Digest Issue 47, 12 November 2019: Good News and Bad News from Glasgow City Council

ANNOUNCEMENT
Glasgow City Council have now placed GoBike on the Stage One List of Statutory Consultees. This means that we are provided with details of proposals that the City Council is considering for a future Traffic Regulation Order, but, if the reaction at this first stage is not supportive the Council might not proceed with it.
This is very good news for GoBike but if does mean that we have to review our ways of working. We are not allowed to publicise the proposals until they proceed to the formal TRO stage and we are now working on a process for effective Stage One review.

So that is the good news from Glasgow City Council and the bad news is contained within Item 3.1, a Parking and One-Way Street issue, but do read on for our list of contents and the wide range of issues that we bring to you in this issue:
