Consultation Extra: Liveable Neighbourhoods (27-09-23)

Liveable Neighbourhoods (LN) header

Two further Liveable Neighbourhood consultations should have featured in the last Digest. The Mansewood to Shawlands and Pollokshields East to Gorbals LNs were mentioned as future consultations in Digest 142 and 143 but then slipped through the net (apologies). Unfortunately, most of the in-person events for these have already passed but we did tweet about them previously. It’s harder to keep track when four LNs have consultations at the same time! These two have a different style of consultation to the two other LN areas as they’re being worked on by a different company. The two Southside LNs are by Atkins (while Yoker to Whiteinch and Royston to Hogganfield are by New Practice).

Both of these had stage one consultation in February 2023 so they’re now at stage two…

Engagement and replacement…

There are two very different replacement projects in this (belated) issue. Pollok Roundabout proposals would replace one car-centric design with another. However, plans for the replacement Monklands Hospital, Airdrie include an active travel path and bridge.

Another duo of Liveable Neighbourhood consultations return with plans to comment on – this time it’s Royston to Hogganfield and Yoker to Whiteinch. There’s also a pair of pre-consultations with both Glasgow and East Renfrewshire asking how best to engage the public.

Elsewhere, it’s last call for the Hairmyres station consultation, South Lanarkshire’s Transport Strategy and Drumchapel’s Local Development Framework. The Waiting to Happen and Doon Valley consultations continue.

Castle Semple assets and connections

All or nothing?

After the recent wave of consultations things have calmed down a bit. There’s a new consultation for Castle Semple Country Park in Renfrewshire. Also, something on the horizon for a roundabout junction in Pollok.

It’s the last call for Glasgow’s District consultations and one in Lanarkshire. The Southside Liveable Neighbourhoods consultations have finished but there’s a few more weeks for the north-west and north-east LNs.

In the Neighbourhood…

Another four consultations at once – this time, Liveable Neighbourhoods in Glasgow. Two on the Southside, one for the north-west and one for north-east. Also, new visualisations came out for some of the earlier LN projects (see featured images on this post). A few of South Lanarkshire’s consultations are ongoing and there’s a new one from North Lanarkshire.

Consultation events – Palacerigg, Cumbernauld has a drop-in event TODAY (1–8pm) and Mansewood to Shawlands LN has an event tomorrow (17 Feb, 4–7pm). See below for details…

Consultation Digest (Local) Issue 119, 15 September 2022

Langside monument

Pause to reflect.

As one event overshadows all others, the recent rush of consultations has stalled. Instead, some of Glasgow’s proposed Traffic Regulation Orders have been made permanent; including four Spaces for People projects.

Next month, consultation events begin for a trio of towns in East Renfrewshire (including the Williamwood area, which has a cycle lane petition).

A visualisation of the proposed A77 Active Corridor, Phase 2

All points East (Ren)

This Digest is dominated by consultations for East Renfrewshire. (The last issue should have included some of them too – apologies.) Five area consultations use Commonplace maps, similar to Glasgow’s Liveable Neighbourhoods (one of which is still open). Other East Ren projects are for a section of Ayr Rd (A77) and supporting documents for the council’s Local Development Plan 2 (LDP2). It’s almost as if ERC have some new active travel staff…

Elsewhere, Inverclyde still have a survey open on a Spaces for People route. Also, a consultation is due to open in June about a gap site by the Clyde…

Building back up…

The Digest returns after an extended break for the local council elections (and some tech issues – apologies). The people in charge of a council have a big say in what gets done so it’s worth noting what has (and hasn’t) changed.

Glasgow City Council continues in minority SNP control, with added support from the Greens. However, Anna Richardson has stepped down from her Sustainability role. Instead, the convenor of the Environment, Sustainability and Carbon Reduction City Policy Committee is Elaine McSporran (Cardonald).

Elsewhere, many neighbouring councils have changed hands:

Consultation resurrection?

Happy Easter! Things are a bit dead, before numbers rise again after the election, so it’s a chance to bring back consultations that slipped through the net in the last few months. The 12 local authorities in the Strathclyde area don’t always let us know what they’re up to!

This issue features East Ayrshire and West Dunbartonshire for the first time in a while. North Ayrshire and Inverclyde still have consultations open. Also, regulars like Glasgow, East Renfrewshire and South Lanarkshire. The latter had a consultation that fell between Digest issues (see featured image, above) and sent a new update on NCN74.

Also, ahead of the local elections, check out Walk, Wheel, Cycle, Vote and consider a trip to Edinburgh for Pedal on Parliament‘s new route on 23 April (just after Earth Day).
