Anderston Plaza and Argyle St – Connecting Anderston

Updated plans following previous consultation in April 2024. The focus this time is on part of the West City Way on the quieter section of Argyle St (west of the M8). It goes from Elderslie St past the Pyramid and the Buttery to the Anderston Bridge (former ‘Bridge to Nowhere’). The new part is a continued 2-way cycle lane past Anderston train station (under the M8 flyover at the traffic lights). This ‘plaza’ seems to take inspiration from Superkilen Park, Copenhagen. Crossings would link through to the recent 1-way protected bike lanes on ‘Argyle St West’, next to the Marriott Hotel. This would give the option of a ground level protected route along Argyle St to the Low Level entrance of Glasgow Central station. An existing stepped footbridge by Anderston station will be removed to make way.

The existing West City Way route, climbing over Anderston Bridge onto Waterloo St, would still lead to the High Level of Central station. Also, plugging this gap would mean the WCW was protected all the way from the station to Kelvingrove Park.

Corunna Street / Minerva Street – Connecting Yorkhill and Kelvingrove, Phase 4

Updated plans following previous consultation in September 2025. These seem to be mostly unchanged apart from more trees and bike parking on Minerva St (near Exhibition Centre station). Corunna St would be one way northbound with a segregated contraflow cycle lane southbound. The street is wide enough to keep car parking on both sides. It links to a busier section of Argyle St in Finnieston (aka ‘The Strip’). Both streets would have speed tables with uncontrolled crossings.
