After a break for some cycling in Germany and the Netherlands, it’s back to Scottish infrastructure. A few announcements about funding suggest some national money is coming through again. There are a few major consultations in Glasgow and East Dunbartonshire. Plus, one we almost missed in East Ayrshire.
Apologies if Hamilton Pride in Place town centre consultation has already finished in South Lanarkshire (I did respond about active travel).

Kilmarnock Town Centre Masterplan

EAC are consulting on early plans for a renewed town centre. Themes are: Sense of place; Climate; Connectivity; Vacant buildings, retail and business development; Heritage, leisure and public realm & Town centre living. Includes a few updates about the Infinity Loop, which seems to have some budget for design. Document is 154 pages(!) but not long to respond to this one…

Deadline: 11 October 2026.

Draft Active Travel Strategy 2 (ATS2)

A long-awaited document following the 2021 Active Travel Discussion. Apparently, “a 10-year plan to help to make walking, wheeling or cycling the first and natural choice for local everyday trips.” The Bears Way gets two mentions in the document and is in the interactive map. Support in this consultation will be an important first step towards future developments, as pointed out by Our Safe Streets Bearsden.

Deadline: 15 November 2026.
Glasgow City
Inner North: Maryhill Road, Bilsland Drive and North Canal Bank St

Some titles still say “City Network”, but these seem to be part of the scaled back routes for Connecting Glasgow. Either way, they’re still on main roads so there’s a lot to like. Especially the links to existing routes, like Garscube Rd onto Maryhill Rd. It’s only one section but it includes major junctions at the Mackintosh Queen’s Cross Church and Bilsland Drive/Queen Margaret Dr. The other route plugs a gap at the end of N Canal Bank St into Sighthill. There were 3d images but these seem to have disappeared. Anyway, worth supporting in the survey. There’s also a drop-in event:
Tuesday 20 October, 3:30 – 7.30pm at Mackintosh Queen’s Cross.

Deadline: 15 November 2026.
South: Shields Road and Maxwell Road

The South area routes link between the South City Way at Eglinton Toll and the South West City Way at the end of Shields Rd. The 3d images and fly-through videos really help to visualise the routes. Shows some sections of road are wide enough to keep car parking on both sides as well as the cycletrack. However, elsewhere parking bays will be removed so these could still do with support in the survey. Drop-in session:
Wednesday 28 October, 3:30 until 7.30pm, St Ninian’s Church Hall, 1 Albert Drive.

Deadline: 15 November 2026.
